I Resolve To…

Download the Case Study

Ok, Ok - So I just added the 50th consecutive year to my sterling track record of failing to adhere to my new year’s resolution.  Perhaps I should just concede that I can’t give up alcohol.  But I’m no different than others in my inability to alter well-established patterns. This is inherent to the human condition.

Dan Buttner, author of Blue Zones, has a meaningful suggestion for changing behavior.  He stresses: make the healthy choice the easy choice.  Achieving behavioral change has long been fashioned as a matter of willpower.   Very few of us summon the intrinsic motivation to make meaningful change.  Buttner argues that we have created a false dichotomy.

A famous sociological study on willpower challenged a young child to sit in a room, alone, staring at a cookie.  The child was offered two cookies, if he could sit with one cookie staring him down for an entire minute and resist the natural urge to take a bite.  Child after child gave in to their instincts.  They couldn’t create sufficient willpower to co-exist with a cookie for one minute.  But when the study tested the child’s ability to sit quietly for one minute (with the cookie reward in another room) results changed miraculously.  By removing barriers successful change can occur.

Other examples?  Remove cigarette or candy vending machines from office common areas.  Voila.  A decline in consumption.  The reverse is true as well.  America has gone bonkers for sports gambling.  Ads, come-ons, and incentives have thrust sports gambling into every living room in our country.  One would think that gambling must have passed muster with the Grand Poobahs who decide what is good or bad for our civic society.  Sure enough, personal bankruptcies are on the rise.  Families are being destroyed by bad judgment and a lack of willpower. Quite frankly, every addiction is a test of willpower; a test that most of us fail.  With gambling, we’ve made it too damn easy to go broke. When the wrong choice is the easy choice…

So what does all of this wringing of hands have to do with Healthrageous?

How Healthrageous Makes It Easy

We make the healthy choice the EASY choice every step of the way. (We literally call it Made Easy Meals.)

  1. Enrolling takes less than two minutes, online or by phone
  2. Ordering can be done on a smart phone
  3. Meal orders arrive within 3 business days
  4. You will receive a text alert when your package arrives
  5. Meals fit neatly into your freezer
  6. No need to read labels or learn nutritional science… every meal is good for you
  7. 3-5 minutes to microwave a healthy meal
  8. Little to no cleanup.

Now, if I could just figure out a way to make this Made Easy Meal program a Made Easy New Year’s Resolution program, I’d be a happy camper.
