Easy On the Eyes

People can be faulted for rarely reading the fine print. For Seniors, fine print can literally be unreadable. When the fine print is littered with 3 and 4-syllable words, greatly exceeding the average American's 6th grade reading comprehension level… well, what’s the point of even bothering to read.

This is the challenge that confronts Medicare Advantage Plan executives when seeking to nudge their membership to a more healthy lifestyle.  What is an appropriate blood pressure?  When are my sugars too high?  What’s the difference between LDL and HDL?  Do I care?    Nutrition information and labels are not designed for ease of use.  They are like software terms of agreement; long and indecipherable.

Most consumer services that are purchased in a retail environment overhype EASE of USE.  Healthrageous is guilty of this promise, as well.  However, Healthrageous consumers are getting their food as part of their benefit with their MA Plan; hence, it’s free to them.  Let’s illustrate this situation.  When services cost money, say… for instance, Verizon’s offer of data storage on your smartphone, the easiest option is often the most expensive – unlimited data storage.  If you want to pay less, you need to understand the difference between 10 megabytes and 20 megabytes.  Many consumers simply opt for the easy option: unlimited storage.

A similar situation exists when Healthrageous healthy eaters are deciding which meals to order for the coming week. However, as noted above, the meals are free to the members. They could do all the nutritional research to determine which meals are best for their Type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. Or, they can trust that we’ve built a program with a high ease of use and only offer meals that have ingredients and nutrients beneficial to them, someone with hypertension, high cholesterol or T2D.

Our most popular meal is Lasagna Primavera. Here are the contents of that meal:

Healthrageous Lasagna Primavera

Is 3 grams of Saturated Fat good or bad? How about 410 milligrams of sodium or 909 milligrams of potassium? And does the word carbohydrate meet 6th grade reading expectations for a 76-year old, Dual Eligible living in a one-room apartment with a mini-fridge and a microwave? Members don’t need to know the answer to those questions, because Healthrageous makes it easy and ONLY includes nutritious meals in their plan.

Ease of learning, shopping, preparing, consuming, and cleaning up. That’s what separates Healthrageous from our competitors. We know our target audience and they aren’t interested in reading meal labels and understanding how much sodium or potassium is good or bad for them. This is why seniors ordering Healthrageous keep coming back for another week of meals. This is why MA Plan executives should be knocking on our door.
